Local Youth Club Grant Scheme

The Local Youth Club Grant Scheme incorporating the National Quality Standards for Volunteer-led Youth Groups 2017.

The Local Youth Club Grant Scheme (LYCGS) supports volunteer-led youth club/group activities at a local level. The Scheme, which provides grant aid towards the costs of running clubs/groups, is part-funded by the proceeds of the National Lottery. Funding for the Scheme is provided by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) and is administered locally by Education and Training Boards (ETBs) on behalf of DCYA. ETBs advertise the Scheme locally on an annual basis, outlining the purpose of the grant and the eligibility criteria.

In 2013, DCYA introduced the National Quality Standards for Volunteer-led Youth Groups (NQSVLYG) as a set of standards to support and develop the work of volunteers in club settings. In 2017 DCYA incorporated the NQSVLYG into the LYCGS. This revised format has been developed in consultation with all relevant stakeholders. It will reduce the administrative burden, while still requiring clubs to display their commitment to best practice, to ongoing development of quality programmes and the provision of activities for young people.

ETBs are the administering agencies for the Scheme. The club/group must send its application directly to the local ETB Youth/Liaison Officer.

For further information regarding the Local Youth Club Grant Scheme incorporating the National Quality Standards for Volunteer-led Youth Groups – or if you need help in completing the LYCGS Application Form – please contact your local ETB Youth/Liaison Officer or the Youth Affairs Unit, Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
