20.12.11 Minister Fitzgerald announces review of the Youth Homelessness Strategy

New Implementation Framework to be prepared for next 5 years. The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald TD has today announced that her Department has engaged with the Centre for Effective Services to undertake a high level review of implementation of the 2001 Youth Homelessness Strategy and to make recommendations on a new Implementation Framework to address youth homelessness over the next 5 years.

8 April, 2011 the High Court directed that publication of certain parts of the report of the Commission of Investigation into the handling by Church and State authorities of allegations and suspicions of child sexual abuse against clerics of the Catholic Diocese of Cloyne be not published until the court otherwise directs.

19.12.11 Children's Minister welcome progress on recruitment of additional Social Workers proposed in Ryan Report

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, TD today welcomed the progress made by the HSE in delivering on its commitment to recruit 60 additional social work staff this year as recommended in the Ryan Report. These posts been exempted from the moratorium on recruitment and filling of vacancies.

18.08.11 €0.8 Million Investment in the Expansion of Facilities and Services for Young People announced by Minister Fitzgerald

Frances Fitzgerald, T.D., Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, today announced funding of 0.8 million under the Expansion of the Young People's Facilities and Services Fund (YPFSF) to the four new towns of Arklow, Athone, Dundalk and Wexford. Minister Fitzgerald said she was confident that the facilities and equipment which will be provided as a result of the funding will be enjoyed by many and will play a meaningful and ongoing role in the development and support of young people.
