9 December 2009 - €15 million for Ryan Report Implementation Plan

Against the backdrop of harsh corrections in the public finances, the Government has agreed to fund in 2010 measures identified in the Government's Implementation Plan in response to the Ryan Report. The precise allocation will be itemised in the Revised Estimates Volume but will be in the order of €15 million.

Teenagers from the Children and Young People's Forum (CYPF) of the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA) and The Base in Ballyfermot, joined other schoolchildren from Dublin in Government Buildings today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

31.07.09 2010 free Pre-School Year in Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme under the OMCYA

Latest figures from the OMCYA show that approximately 4,000 pre-school services have applied to enter the scheme with a capacity to provide some 93,000 pre-school year places, well in excess of the places required.  As a result, it has been decided to allow for greater parental choice and flexibility in the case of children who just miss out on the age eligibility of the scheme by a matter of weeks.

7 April 2009 Minister Andrews welcomes free pre-school year

Press Release Minister for Children and Youth Affairs welcomes free pre-school year in early childhood care and education (ECCE)7th April 2009. The Minister for welcomed today's Budget announcement by the Minister for Finance of the introduction next January of a free pre-school year for children.  The scheme is expected to benefit some 70,000 children, aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years 6 months every year.
