The aim of this study was to examine carotenoids in human and formulae milks
Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Two carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin are found in the retinal pigment epithelium of the eye where they are believed to protect it against oxidative and light damage. The amounts of these carotenoids consumed by premature infants are not known. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the investigation was to measure these carotenoids in human and formulae milks. DESIGN: In all, 28 more...

The aim of the study was to examine the vitamin D status (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D; S-25OHD) in adolescent girls and elderly community-dwelling women living in four countries of northern Europe and to explain inter-countery differences
Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To determine the vitamin D status (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D; S-25OHD) in adolescent girls and elderly community-dwelling women living in four countries of northern Europe and to explain differences in S-25OHD concentrations between and within the countries. DESIGN: A cross-sectional observational study conducted in a standardised way during February-March. S-25OHD was more...

The aim of this study was to compare extraction methods of diclofenac from spiked aqueous and plasma samples, for optimun extraction of diclofenac from small volume paediatric plasma samples
Abstract:
The extraction of diclofenac from spiked aqueous and plasma samples by liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and solid phase extraction (SPE) methods is compared. The SPE methodology utilised a hydrophilic lipophilic balanced (HLB) copolymer as the extraction phase. Using a literature HPLC method, a calibration curve for diclofenac was constructed in the range 1.0-50.0 microg/ml. Diclofenac more...
