Book Review: From Child to Adult: A Longitudinal Study of Irish Children and their Families
Abstract:
Reviews the book From Child to Adult: A Longitudinal Study of Irish Children and their Families by Anne Cleary, Michael Fitzgerald & Elizabeth Nixon (2004). This monograph reports on a 10-year follow-up of a sample of 185 11-year olds from Dublin who were assessed for psychological health in 1990. At age 21, 97 respondents and 80 mothers were re-interviewed. The analyses possible with the small numbers in this study are limited. However, it deserves a place in the literature on risk and resilience, which it reviews, for the messages that mental ill-health is not immutable, and that disruptive conduct as well as poverty play a role in educational failure.
